The book is an anthology of contributions is based on women’s personal histories and experiences, drawing attention to social issues such as homelessness, war, LGBT activism, mental health and the refugee crisis. It features letters from women including Booker-prize nominated author Elif Shafak, writing to Jacinda Arden after the Christchurch attack; activist, actor and TV presenter June Sarpong addressing designer Diane Von Furstenberg; and Princess Sumaya of Jordan who pens a letter to her Grandmothers.
Tomasz Hoskins, publisher, commented: "Elizabeth Filippouli has long been recognised as being responsible for bringing together trailblazing women across the globe to promote innovation, collaboration and positive change across industries and sectors. From Women to the World is an extension of that work in letter form with some of the world's most remarkable women speaking directly to the women who have inspired and influenced them. The result is both moving and humbling in equal measure and we are delighted to be working with Elizabeth to bring this important book out into the world."
Filippouli is a journalist and social entrepreneur. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Global Thinkers Forum (GTF), a global platform incubated while she studied at Said Business School (University of Oxford), that works as an agent for "positive change" by connecting international thought leaders and "promoting values-based leadership, collaboration and partnerships".
The organisation launched Athena40 – the first global list of the top 40 most innovative women from across all industries. The list is based on public nominations and merit, and will be announced every two years. Filippouli has previously worked as investigative journalist and news anchor with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, CNN International and Al Jazeera English.
