Icon has acquired UK, Commonwealth and EU rights to the debut book from award-winning journalist Marina Gerner, The Vagina Business: The Innovative Breakthroughs that Could Change Everything in Women’s Health.
UK rights were acquired by Keira Jamison at Icon (who no longer works at the company) from Hattie Grünewald of The Blair Partnership. US rights were acquired by Sourcebooks from Jaidree Braddix at Park & Fine and German rights were acquired by Redline. The book will be published in the UK in September 2024.
The Vagina Business includes interviews from 100 entrepreneurs, researchers and investors across 15 countries, investigating the industry of women’s health and “female-centric tech”.
Gerner said: “I wrote The Vagina Business to shine a massive spotlight on the most pioneering innovation in women’s health. Through the stories of determined female entrepreneurs, the book offers more than awareness. It instills hope. It uncovers tangible examples of how female-centric tech can address longstanding gaps in women’s healthcare — from fertility and menopause to heart health. My goal is to empower readers with practical insights, and to spark more conversations and actions — more investment, more research, and even more innovation — to bring about a better future in women’s health.”
Connor Stait, senior commissioning editor at Icon, said: “The Vagina Business is a book that simply needed to be written. Marina Gerner is a brilliant storyteller and advocate for the importance of women’s health, and The Vagina Business is both a celebration of the innovators already in the field and a clarion call for further action. I am proud that Icon are publishing this important new work and look forward to it igniting conversation and inspiring readers.”
