Ilex Press, an imprint of Octopus Books, has signed A Year of Watercolour: A Seasonal Guide to Botanical Watercolour Painting, the third botanical watercolour book by artist and author Harriet de Winton.
Ellie Corbett, commissioning editor, acquired world rights from Oscar Janson-Smith at Gleam Futures. A Year of Watercolour will be published on 31st August at £18.99.
A Year of Watercolour walks readers through more than 30 step-by-step botanical paintings that span the seasons, the publisher says: “Harriet provides expert yet accessible advice on how to paint cherry blossoms and lambs in the spring, honeybees and wildflowers for summer, oak leaves and harvest mice in autumn, and pine trees and snowdrops in winter. Woven in with the watercolour projects are charming bonus features like a recipe for wild garlic pesto in springtime, or guidance on how to paint a festive wreath with winter berries and foliage.”
Harriet de Winton is an artist and stationer. Founder of the de Winton Paper company, Harriet hosts a YouTube watercolour tutorial channel as well as hosting workshops in the UK and abroad. She is also the author of New Botanical Painting and Birds, Bees & Blossoms.
Corbett said: “I am so delighted to work with Harriet again, and proud to be publishing her third gorgeous watercolour book on the Ilex list. This is really a botanical watercolour painter’s almanac, and I love that readers can use this book throughout the year to engage with the natural world around them.”
Harriet de Winton commented: “Our dog Crumble and I take the same daily walk through a secluded and beautiful forest: we’ve been chaperoned by a low flying buzzard, marvelled at the neon glow of autumnal larch needles and never failed to be extremely excited at the sighting of yet another mushroom – no two walks are the same. Eventually I brought along a sketchpad and paints to capture these moments and A Year of Watercolour is the happy culmination of what we saw across the seasons.”
“I’m so happy to be working on my third book with Ilex. Ellie and her team have done a marvellous job combining the illustrated projects with tales from my seasonal diary and I’m so proud of this beautiful book.”
