Michael O’Mara Books is to publish a "captivating" new biography of Queen Elizabeth II and her sister Margaret by royal biographer Andrew Morton.
Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters will offer an "insightful" look at the sisters' unique relationship and dynamic, and the lasting impact they have had on the Crown.
The synopsis reads: "From the idyll of their cloistered early life to the divergent paths they took following their father’s death and Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne, the book explores the expectations placed on them throughout the changing mores of the 20th century. Examining the sisters’ relationship through turbulent times, including Margaret’s relationship with Group Captain Peter Townsend, Morton reveals surprising new secrets and revelations about significant events in their lives."
The biography will be published in hardback on 30th March 2021.
Louise Dixon, senior editorial director, said: "This is a captivating and sensational look at Elizabeth and Margaret, two drastically different sisters – one resigned to duty and responsibility, the other resistant to it – and the lasting impact they have had on the royal family. With unique insights into the lives of these extraordinary women, written by the globally bestselling biographer Andrew Morton, this book is a real treat for fans of the smash-hit Netflix series 'The Crown'."
Morton commented: "This is an intriguing and compelling story of sisters at once united and divided by love and loyalty, duty and desire. Bound by blood and raised in a world of glamour, obligation and sacrifice, the trajectory of their evolving relationship — as well as their contrasting personalities — tested their dedication and devotion to the limits."
Morton is the author of Diana: Her True Story (Macmillan, 1992).
