The fourth instalment in Jacaranda Books’ A Quick Ting On series will be by award-winning entrepreneur Tskenya-Sarah Frazer, entitled A Quick Ting On: Black British Businesses.
World rights were acquired directly from the author by the creator of the series, writer and publisher Magdalene Abraha. Frazer is an award-winning diversity, inclusion and sustainability specialist who, over the past nine years, has worked to ensure that diversity and inclusion “underpins all functional areas of businesses across global public, private and third sectors".
Titles in the eight-book series, launched in 2021 by Abraha, are: A Quick Ting On: Afrobeats by Christian Adofo; Plantain by Rui Da Silva; Black British Power Movement by Chanté Joseph; The Black Girl Afro by Zainab Kway-Swanzy; Black British Businesses by Tskenya-Sarah Frazer; Theatre Sh*t by Tobi Kyeremateng; Grime by Franklyn Addo; and Bamboo Earrings by Sophia Tassew.
In her instalment, out in April, Frazer explores the past, present and future of Black British businesses, "touching as far back as 13th-century Black British establishments and ending with a legacy chapter featuring the last interview [with] pioneering entrepreneur and founder of SB.TV, Jamal Edwards".
Frazer said that having Edwards as part of the book was “monumental", considering how important he was to the landscape of Black British business. “His spirit of always helping others, moving the dial and pushing boundaries is something we can all learn from—entrepreneur or not," she said.
Edwards’ interview closes a book that includes insights from fellow pioneers including Sharmadean Reid and Ozwald Boateng.
Frazer said: "It is a great honour to be one of the debut authors as part of the AQTO series. This series is a documentation of all the momentous things Black folk have contributed to the United Kingdom and I feel proud to be the person to document our entrepreneurial contributions. Being part of this series has generally been a highlight of my life and a highlight of my career."
