Jessica Kingsley Publishers (JKP) has announced plans to publish five new books on the topics of asexuality and aromanticism in its gender diversity and sexuality list.
Former editor Andrew James acquired world rights in the following titles directly from their respective authors: Ace Voices by Eris Young; Sounds Fake But Okay by award-winning podcasters Sarah Costello and Kayla Kaszyca, for release 21st February; I Am Ace by TikTokker Cody Daigle-Orians (21st February); Ace Notes by Michele Kirichanskaya (21st March) and Ace and Aro Journeys by The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project (21st April). Today (20th February) marks the beginning of Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week.
Jane Evans, UK senior commissioning editor for gender diversity and sexuality, said: “We’re thrilled to be releasing a range of new titles at JKP that will allow people on the ace/aro spectrum to feel seen and represented in the LGBTQIA+ literature. These much-needed books will raise awareness and understanding of ace and aro experiences and identities and celebrate these communities."
Daigle-Orians said: “Eighteen-year-old me didn’t see asexuality represented anywhere in the world. For anyone searching to understand themselves, one of these books will make them feel seen. And for a community that’s historically felt invisible, this is life-changing. JKP has given us freedom and space to share our stories and knowledge in our own authentic ways. We’re writing our stories as ourselves, for our community.”
