Jo Fletcher Books has acquired a “stunning” debut fantasy series, The Last Legacy, by Orbit editor James Long, writing as James Logan.
Publishing director Anne Perry bought world rights in the three novels directly from the author in an exclusive submission.
The Silverblood Promise, the first in the series and slated for publication in April 2024, tells the story of Lukan Gardova, a rakish young nobleman, who’s busy wasting his life away drinking and gambling. When Lukan learns his estranged father has died in mysterious circumstances, leaving a cryptic message written in his own blood, Lukan finds himself heading out on a wild adventure.
His only desire is to unravel the mystery behind his father’s death, but the deeper he delves, the stranger things get. Before long he’s become the unlikely ally of a master thief and the unexpected father-figure to an orphan named Flea. Together, Lukan and his allies will find themselves facing ruthless assassins, terrifying creatures and some powerful conspirators, all in an effort to prevent a civil war.
Perry said: “I loved The Silverblood Promise from the very first paragraph. James is an exceptional writer, equally at home with scenes of magic and swashbuckling, tender heart-to-heart conversations, and laugh-out-loud banter. His characters are a delight, his monsters are superb, and this book is a banger. I can’t wait to introduce Lukan and co to the rest of the world!”
Long commented: "I’m delighted that The Silverblood Promise has found a home with Jo Fletcher Books. Working with Anne has been a joy, her passion and editorial expertise have made the book so much stronger, and I couldn’t be in better hands. I’m excited for the adventure ahead and for everyone to meet Lukan and the gang next year."
