Joffe Books signs three-book deal with Shroff-Shah

Joffe Books has acquired south Asian author Meeti Shroff-Shah's debut novel in a three-book deal. 

Commissioning editor Emma Grundy Haigh acquired world rights, excluding the Indian subcontinent, from Kanishka Gupta at Writer’s Side in New Delhi.

The Death of Kirti Kadakia will be the first title in a Mumbai-set cosy murder mystery series and it will be published in December 2021. The synopsis reads: "Among the rarified circles of Mumbai’s posh Temple Hill, there is nothing more tragic than the loss of face. Not even loss of life. Lurking beneath the diamond-studded prayer meetings and the luxurious bridge afternoons at the club, grievances fester, agendas remain hidden, and a secret is about to be revealed." 

Haigh said: "I devoured Meeti’s novel in two sittings. Meeti Shroff-Shah is a tremendously exciting new voice in crime. I can’t wait for readers to discover this series and be swept away by Meeti’s wry humour and stunning twists, just like I was."

Shroff-Shah, who published her memoir Do You Know Any Good Boys? with Pan Macmillan in 2016, commented: "I am really looking forward to working with Emma and the team at Joffe Books. They have such sharp insight and understanding into what makes good crime fiction, that I believe this is going to be an incredible experience."
