John Murray Press has snapped up The World According to Cunk by Philomena Cunk, the follow-up to Cunk on Everything (Two Roads).
Publishing director Kate Hewson acquired world rights from Jo Unwin at Jo Unwin Literary Agency. Cunk will return to screens this year with a new special airing on BBC and Netflix internationally. The book will be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook read by Diane Morgan on 3rd October 2024. In the US, Grand Central Publishing will publish The World According to Cunk in November 2024.
"Written and illustrated by Philomena Cunk—with a little help from her ‘team’, actress Diane Morgan, creator Charlie Brooker, and writers Jason Hazeley, Joel Morris and Ben Caudell, The World According to Cunk is a complete history of everything important that’s ever happened in the universe, from the first baby caveman to the invention of the poo emoji," the synopsis says. "Inventions! Art! Plagues! Trumpets! Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about is in here, and more (printers, for example). Read it, and you’ll never have to read another history book again. Provided history ends quite soon."
Hewson said: "It’s so refreshing to publish a history book that isn’t bogged down by ‘facts’ or ‘accuracy’ and gets to the heart of what really matters: getting something from someone on TV out in time for Christmas."
Cunk added: "The World According to Cunk is the perfect gift for someone you don’t know that well but think they once might have mentioned that they liked me and my TV show. Or was it Lucy Worsley?"
