Independent publisher Angry Robot has acquired a third title from Cameron Johnston, The Maleficent Seven.
The publisher acquired world rights, including translation and audio, from Ed Wilson at Johnson & Alcock.
The synopsis for The Maleficent Seven says: "Black Herran was a dread demonologist, and the most ruthless general in Essoran. She assembled the six most fearsome warriors to captain her armies: a necromancer, a vampire lord, a demigod, an orcish warleader, a pirate queen and a twisted alchemist. Together they brought the whole continent to its knees... Until the day she abandoned her army, on the eve of total victory. Forty years later, she must bring her former captains back together for one final stand, in the small town of Tarnbrooke: the last bastion against a fanatical new enemy tearing through the land, intent on finishing the job Black Herran started years before."
Angry Robot published Johnston's duology The Traitor God and God of Broken Things, in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Commissioning editor Eleanor Teasdale commented: "Cameron is a fantastic writer whose duology was so well received. I'm so pleased to have acquired this new direction from him, which further proves what an exciting fantasy writer he is. The Maleficent Seven is not only a huge amount of fun, it's also fast, bloody and enjoyable."
Johnston said: "I am thrilled to be working with Angry Robot Books again. Such an innovative publisher is the perfect home for my latest fantasy novel, featuring a group of legendary villains reluctantly working together. It takes a story of heroic defence, gives it an epic dark fantasy twist, and then takes it in surprising directions."
The Maleficent Seven will be published on 10th August 2021.
