Comedian Rosie Jones has signed a three-book deal with Hachette Children’s Group, following the launch of her middle-grade fiction series The Amazing Edie Eckhart in 2021.
Polly Lyall Grant, senior commissioning editor, acquired world rights from Flo Howard at Off The Kerb. The third book in the Edie Eckhart series – which is inspired by Jones’ experiences of navigating school with cerebral palsy – will publish on the Hodder Children’s Books imprint in August 2023, with the next fiction title to publish in August 2024. February 2024 also will see the publication of Rosie’s début non-fiction book, Moving On Up: Beat the bullies, make fearless friendships and deal with funny fails.
The book is described as a school survival guide for nine to 11-year-olds. The synopsis reads: “With funny stories, top tips and witty illustration, it will entertain and reassure readers preparing to move schools. No one knows quite as much about friendship fails, facing bullies and being totally embarrassed than comedian Rosie Jones. Rosie knows exactly how you can care less about the things that get you down, and more about the things you care about.”
Grant said of the deal: “It has been joyous to see the love for Edie Eckhart from readers, teachers, parents and librarians.”
Emily Lunn, senior commissioning editor at Wren & Rook, Hachette Children’s Group, commented: “We love Rosie and her infectious energy, humour, and dedication to her publishing – we’re so proud to be publishing her first children’s non-fiction book.”
Jones added: “I’m very happy to be continuing the Edie Series for two more books, and am excited to be writing a non-fiction book as well.”
