Journo Rebecca Reid's 'dark and twisty' debut to Transworld

Transworld has signed a "dark and twisty" debut women’s fiction novel, Perfect Liars, by journalist Rebecca Reid.

Reid has a column for the Telegraph Women’s section and works for Metro Online. This is her first novel. 

Commissioning editor Darcy Nicholson bought world rights to Perfect Liars and one other novel from Eve White at the Eve White Literary Agency, calling it "a compulsive page-turner with real depth and a shock or two along the way”. 

Nicholson added: “I’ve long been a fan of Rebecca’s so when she tweeted that she had written a book, I was quick to get in touch. It was immediately clear to me that Rebecca is a very special talent – a natural storyteller with a sharp wit and a keen eye for tension – and the team here at Transworld leapt into action."

The plot for Reid's debut opens with a funeral; the question is, whose? There are three possibilities: Georgia, Lila and Nancy – three friends bound by a secret from their school days who are forced together at a dinner party when one of them suddenly wants to talk about the past. But the evening does not go as planned. Three women walk into the dinner and only two will walk out.

Reid said: “I’m still slightly dazed that any of this is happening. I hope that people will find the combination of privilege, wealth, entitlement and dark female friendship in the novel as exciting to read as I did to write.”

Transworld will publish in February 2019.
