Actor Juliet Stevenson is to narrate the audiobook edition of Yaroslav Hrytsak and Nadiyka Gerbish’s A Ukrainian Christmas, a book celebrating the Christmas traditions of Ukraine published in the UK by Sphere, Little, Brown Book Group on 3rd November.
A Ukrainian Christmas was originally published in Ukraine in December 2020, was a PEN Ukraine Best Book of 2020 and longlisted for the BBC News Ukraine Book of the Year 2021.
Rights were acquired by Cath Burke, deputy managing director of Little, Brown from Olena Karghii at Portal Books, and Little, Brown made a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal on publication.
Sarah Shrubb, audio publisher, said: “Juliet Stevenson is our dream narrator for the audiobook and her beautiful narration perfectly complements this incredibly special book.
Stevenson is known for roles in TV and film, such as in “Death in Paradise”, “Lewis” “Bend it Like Beckham” and “Truly Madly Deeply”.
Nadiyka Gerbish added: "The beautiful and profound narration by Juliet Stevenson performs a tiny Christmas miracle: making the small voice of hope heard in the festive clamour of the season, reminding the world of the oppressed, the resisting, of the ones who would never give up on their love.”
The English-language edition includes a new foreword from the authors following the attack by Russia on Ukraine in February this year.
