Electric Monkey has bought two standalone titles, set in the world of the internationally bestselling Twin Crowns series by “queens of romantasy” Katherine Webber and Catherine Doyle.
Lindsey Heaven, fiction publishing director, and Sarah Levison, editorial director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Claire Wilson at Rogers, Coleridge and White literary agency.
The publisher promised that each of the new spin-off novels “will follow a much-loved character from the original [Twin Crowns] series, soon-to-be-exclusively announced in an interactive teaser campaign which invites the authors’ brilliantly dedicated fanbase to guess who those characters will be”.
The "queens of romantasy" will take turns in writing the books, Electric Monkey said. The first book, releasing in spring 2025, will be written by Webber and the second book, releasing in spring 2026, is written by Doyle, with both authors collaborating creatively in the campaigns and on the promotion of both books. Each title will be accompanied by a major marketing and PR campaign and supported by the Twin Crowns Street Team.
“The Twin Crowns series, which first launched in spring 2022 as a top 10 title in the Nielsen Children’s and YA chart and as a brand new writing partnership, has led the way in the YA romantasy genre with innovative dual-edition trade publishing and a range of exclusive editions,” Electric Monkey said.
“The sequel, Cursed Crowns was also a top 10 bestseller in the children’s and YA Fiction chart in 2023 and Twin Crowns was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize that same year. A global phenomenon, it has also sold in 17 international territories.”
Levison said: “We are beyond delighted to announce two new books from the world of Twin Crowns, expanding this action-packed, fantastical and unashamedly romantic universe for existing fans and new readers alike. “Katie and Cat are a dream pairing and their shared love and passion for the series ensures that these two new books contain all the spirit, passion and humour of the bestselling trilogy, and then some.”
Doyle said: "We’ve had so much fun creating the vibrant world of Twin Crowns, we are beyond delighted to be able to further expand it in our own unique ways, by returning to two beloved characters who we (and the readers) are not quite ready to leave behind.”
Webber said: “While the trilogy is coming to a close, we are so happy we are able to expand this world that we both love so much. We see the new books as true standalones that can be read by readers familiar with the trilogy as well as those new to the world of Twin Crowns. We have had such a wonderful experience writing and publishing these books, and are so glad the adventure isn’t over yet.”
