HarperCollins has acquired a “fierce” new book by Labour leader Keir Starmer that will see him lay out his vision for Britain.
William Collins publishing director Arabella Pike bought world rights to the untitled project from Caroline Michel at Peters Fraser and Dunlop. A publication date has not yet been revealed.
“In his book Keir Starmer will go back to his early life to trace the origins of his politics and the influences that have shaped him as a leader,” Pike said. “It will make a fierce argument for the vital role of respect and integrity in political life as he sets out his vision for Britain’s future. We are delighted and excited to be publishing.”
Prior to becoming an MP, Starmer was a human rights lawyer. He co-founded Doughty Street Chambers in 1990, and conducted cases in a range of international courts, including the European Court of Human Rights. In 2008, he was appointed director of public prosecutions and head of the Crown Prosecution Service for England and Wales, a role he held until 2013.
He studied law at the University of Leeds and St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and has published several books including Three Pillars of Liberty: Political Rights and Freedoms in the UK (Routledge), which he co-authored, and European Human Rights Law (Legal Action Group.) He was first elected as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras in 2015 and became Labour leader in 2020.
“The result of a project started during lockdown, Keir’s book lays out his plans for a renewed Britain, and why he believes in the vital importance of putting integrity back into public life,” a spokesperson for Starmer added.
