Simon & Schuster Children’s Books has bought A-lister Keira Knightley’s debut children’s book, I Love You Just the Same, which she has both written and illustrated. World rights were acquired by Ali Dougal, publishing director at the Gallery Books imprint, from Robert Kirby and Lindy King at United Agents.
Gallery Kids dubbed it "a spellbinding gift book", inspired by Knightley’s experiences as a parent. It will publish as a "luxurious, high-spec" hardback on 23rd October 2025, supported by blanket PR coverage and partnership activity.
The story follows a girl as she navigates the changes that come when a new sibling arrives, taking her on a journey into a surreal and enchanting dreamscape. The book explores themes of separation anxiety, resilience, and the ability for the heart to expand as a family grows.
Knightley has received nominations for two Academy Awards, two BAFTAS, three Golden Globes and a Laurence Olivier Award. Her work has ranged from blockbusters like "The Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise to costume dramas such as "Atonement", "Pride & Prejudice" and "The Duchess".
In 2018 she received an OBE for services to drama and charity. She lives in London with her husband and two daughters.
Knightley said: “This is a hugely personal creative endeavour for me, and a project I’m passionate about. I hope that people enjoy the book as much as I’ve loved creating it.”
Dougal added: “Keira is an exquisitely talented writer and artist, a true creative, and this book comes from her heart. Very rarely does something as special and unique as this come along.”
