Puffin has revealed the title of the 17th instalment of the bestselling series Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.
His latest book will be called Diper Överlöde and will be released in hardback and e-book editions simultaneously in 27 countries across the world on 25th October. Puffin said it will be supported with an “impactful marketing and publicity campaign including family partnerships, activity with social media influencers, major advertising and promotions targeting schools, families and retailers”.
According to Nielsen BookScan, the 16 previously published titles and various tie-ins have sold 15.4 million print copies for £85.6m in the UK. Only David Walliams and J K Rowling have sold more children’s fiction books in the past 15 years.
The new book charts the rise of middle-schooler Greg Heffley’s teenage brother’s band, Löded Diper, as they live out their rock ’n’ roll dreams. When he decides to tag along, Greg doesn’t realise what he’s getting into. But he soon learns that late nights, unpaid gigs, fighting band members and money troubles are all part of the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle. Can Greg help Löded Diper become the legends they think they are? Or will too much time with Rodrick’s band be a diper överlöde?
Francesca Dow, managing director of Penguin Random House Children’s, said: “Puffin is incredibly excited to rock out with Jeff Kinney this autumn with the publication of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Diper Överlöde, and cannot wait to share book 17 of this phenomenal, much-loved series with readers across the globe.
“Last year, we were thrilled to see the first book in the series brought to life on Disney+, helping to create new Wimpy fans for the books which deliver such a brilliant reading experience, supporting even the least confident kids to share in these funny stories. We also look forward to book two in the series being adapted as a Disney+ film. Rock ’n’ roll on the year of Rodrick!”
