Transworld has acquired three more titles from Giles Kristian, author of Lancelot, published by Bantam in 2018.
Editorial director Simon Taylor acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (including Canada) from Bill Hamilton at A M Heath in a ""significant" deal.
The first title in the deal, Far Wanderer, will be a contemporary chase thriller set in the Norwegian Arctic. It will be published in early 2022 under Bantam Press. The second novel (currently titled The Valkyrie) is slated for 2023 and will see Kristian return to the historical fold, says the publisher. The as-yet-untitled third novel is currently lined up for the following year.
Taylor said of Far Wanderer: "It boasts all the elements that make Giles’ historical fiction irresistible: the brilliantly evoked sense of place, characters that leap to life on the page, and action-packed, heart-in-mouth storytelling, but it’s a contemporary chase thriller set in the Norwegian Arctic. As you turn the pages, you feel an icy chill envelop you."
Kristian commented: "Inspired by an outward-bound trip which I was foolish enough to undertake in Norway back in 2003, Far Wanderer is a story I’ve been wanting to tell ever since. Had I written it back then, it would have taken the familiar shape of an action thriller. Now though, with some more years on my back, and being a father too, it’s become a personal exploration: a tale of suffering and of our will to survive, but beneath that is a story about a father’s struggle to let go, and his child’s struggle to go on without him. I’m very grateful to Transworld for encouraging me to tread new ground and to see what I find."
