Viking has acquired the latest thriller from L V Matthews, author of three psychological thrillers published by Welbeck/Mountain Leopard Press including The Twins, which was a Richard and Judy Book Club pick.
Rosa Schierenberg, editorial director at Viking, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to To Love a Liar from Camilla Bolton at Darley Anderson & Associates. It will be published in paperback, e-book and audio in February 2025.
The book’s synopsis reads: “Married couple Chris and Jillian are in hiding, secreted away in a remote cottage on a Scottish loch. A media frenzy surrounds them, following revelations about Chris’ past as an undercover policeman and the suspicious death of a young woman. It’s Chris and Jillian against the world, until Jillian goes out sailing and doesn’t return. Did she choose to disappear or has the past finally caught up with them?"
Schierenberg said: “I’m delighted that Liv has chosen to join us here at Viking. She is fast establishing herself as a go-to author of intelligent, character-driven psychological suspense that will appeal to fans of Gillian McAllister and Louise Candlish. Perfectly paced and beautifully written, To Love a Liar is both a tense one-sit-read and a sensitive examination of marriage, love and morality. We’re so looking forward to bringing it to Liv’s ever-growing readership.”
Matthews said: “I’m so excited to be publishing To Love a Liar with Rosa and the team at Viking. I have loved writing this book, exploring the murky world of undercover operations, loss of identity and the impact of trauma on marriage. I know that Viking will champion and deliver it with passion and eloquence.”
Bolton added: “L V Matthews is a writer who bewitches with raw authentic characters, electrifies the reader with her twisty plots and has the kind of beautiful narrative voice that makes you want to underline her prose. We are incredibly excited to be joining the amazing team at Viking and working alongside Rosa again to make To Love a Liar a huge success."
