Lake Union editor Sammia Hamer has signed two books each from Tracy Buchanan (above left) and Hannah Beckerman (above right).
Hamer acquired world English language rights in both deals. Beckerman was represented by Sheila Crowley at Curtis Brown, while Buchanan's deal was struck with Caroline Hardman at Hardman and Swainson.
The synopsis for Beckerman's first title reads: "The Impossible Truths of Love is a powerful story about the secrets we keep to protect those we love. When Nell’s dying father makes a baffling pronouncement, she begins to uncover fragments of the past which lead her to question everything she thought she knew about her family."
The first book in Buchanan's deal, Circle of Destruction, will follow Ellie Mileham as she takes over the admin of her village’s Facebook community group, however something which starts out as a pleasant pastime quickly takes a sinister turn. When members of the group begin to get targeted, including Ellie, she decides to take matters into her own hands, which takes her down a very dark path, forcing Ellie to confront her own childhood and secrets she thought were long buried.
Both titles will be published in the UK, US and Australia in October 2021, with the second titles to follow in 2022.
Hamer commented: "Tracy is a dream to work with we look forward to building on her success with these next two books. The key to Tracy’s success is her gripping writing with its claustrophobic small-town backdrops and utterly compelling characters. It makes for heartbreakingly real family drama that you engage with from the very first page.
She added: "I have long admired Hannah’s work and was blown away by the sensitivity of her writing. She expertly navigates readers through the detailed secrets that we keep to protect the ones we love. This is upmarket reading group fiction at its best."
Beckerman is the author of If Only I Could Tell You (Orion, 2019) and The Dead Wife's Handbook (Penguin, 2014). Buchanan's debut Wall of Silence was published by Lake Union in April 2020.
Lake Union is an imprint of Amazon Publishing.
