No Exit Press has acquired Perfume River, the new novel from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Olen Butler.
Perfume River sees Butler return to the subject matter that inspired his 1993 Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of short stories, A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain – the Vietnam War (Grove Press). "Profound and poignant", this literary novel is an examination of relationships, personal choice, and how war resonates down the generations.
No Exit Press bought UK & Commonwealth excluding Canada rights from Moses Cardona at John Hawkins & Associates from Sara Menguc at Sara Menguc Literary Agency.
No Exit Press m.d. Ion Mills said: "We believe Perfume River is Robert Olen Butler’s finest work to date and are absolutely thrilled to have such a special book on our list. Having published Robert’s three historical novels, The Hot Country, The Star of Istanbul and The Empire of Night in 2014/15, we will be reissuing A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain this July, and his collection of humorous (wry) vignettes, Severance/Intercourse, in October, so we are very excited to now also be publishing this outstanding literary novel."
Perfume River will be published in hardback in December 2016 and will be accompanied by a UK author tour.
