Leap, a new imprint at Bonnier Books UK, has signed Thread: A Caesarean Story of Myth, Magic and Medicine by journalist Hannah Marsh. Carole Tonkinson, publisher, acquired world all-language rights from Katie Fulford at Bell Lomax Moreton for publication in May 2025. "From the minute I spoke about this book to Carole I knew she was the publisher for it as she immediately understood what a brilliant proposal Hannah had written on this most important and wide ranging, yet rarely written about subject. It is wonderful to see it among the first of her titles on her exciting new imprint", said Fulford.
Thread "seeks to reframe caesarean section on its journey through myth, magic and medicine" by "offering an unflinching but compassionate examination of a procedure that nowadays remains both pedestrian and miraculous". After giving birth via caesarean, Marsh suffered from PTSD and part of her healing came from researching the procedure and its history, the press release reads. She commented: "I have been a magpie in this time, gathering stories and voices, and weaving them together into a tale that I’m so very proud and excited to share."

The author continued: "When I found myself on the operating table, in the middle of an emergency caesarean section six years ago, the last thing I felt was lucky. But having understood so much more about the place this miraculous procedure occupies in both history and our collective culture, I feel an immense amount of gratitude, and wonder at the fact that this means of birthing was available for me, as it is for so many others."
Tonkinson said: "Thread is an incredible book for any reader interested in women, women’s health, medical misogyny, myth and magical storytelling. It has been such a privilege to work with Hannah and her agent Katie Fulford on this important project, offering a much-needed revisionist look at the practice, mindset and language around caesareans and the birth experience."
