Orion non-fiction is set to publish the biography of the late Ian Fraser ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, the founder and front man of the rock band Motörhead.
Named after Motörhead's most famous song, Lemmy, The Ace of Spades the "definitive no-holds-barred biography" is written by a "close friend" of Lemmy, author Mick Wall.
It is based on Wall's many interviews with Lemmy over their 35-year friendship, combined with insights from those who knew him – including former band mates, friends, managers, fellow artists and record business insiders – and promises "unputdownable insight into one of Britain's greatest characters and greatest exports". It takes readers from his school days growing up in North Wales through to the forming of Motörhead, when he originally wanted to call the band Bastard.
Anna Valentine, publishing director for Orion non-fiction, acquired world rights (excluding USA and Canada) for Lemmy, The Ace of Spades from Robert Kirby at United Agents.
Wall is a rock writer, author and TV and radio programme maker, and the author of numerous books, including: When Giants Walked the Earth: A Biography Of Led Zeppelin (Orion, 2009); Metallica: Enter Night: The Biography (Orion, 2012); AC/DC: Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be (Orion, 2013); Black Sabbath: Symptom of the Universe (Orion, 2013); Love Becomes a Funeral Pyre: A Biography of The Doors (Orion, 2014) and Foo Fighters: Learning to Fly (Orion, 2015).
Orion plan to publish in hardback, priced £20, in April.
