Hodder buys account of 'Dynasties' cameraman's penguin year

Hodder & Stoughton has snapped up cameraman Lindsay McCrae’s account of spending a year in the Antarctic filming emperor penguins for the hit BBC series "Dynasties".

Non-fiction publisher Rupert Lancaster acquired world English rights from Annabel Merullo at PFD for My Penguin Year: Living with the Emperors.

McCrae, aged 29, filmed the birds’ entire life cycle, endured freezing winds and missed the birth of his first son while living isolated on an Antarctic ice shelf. He also captured incredible footage that was seen by 8 million British people.

He said: "I’m so excited to share the reality of living in the most beautiful, coldest and potentially most dangerous place on earth whilst witnessing natural events only a handful of people have ever seen. Sharing stories that without this book would go untold, is the final chapter of my Antarctic adventure."

Lancaster said: "That penguins film was one of the best, most moving wildlife documentaries I’ve ever seen. I’m so pleased that we will now be publishing Lindsay’s inspirational account – and it’s very exciting to find that Lindsay can write as well as take amazing film and stills. This book is a joy."

The book  will be published in hardback on 14th November.
