HarperNorth has scooped shadow foreign secretary Lisa Nandy’s first book, offering a road map for how Britain can become a “self-confident, united outward-looking country, showing leadership in the world once again”.
Jonathan de Peyer, senior commissioning editor, acquired world all language rights directly from the Wigan MP, for publication in June 2022.
Where Next? Finding Our Place in a World Falling Apart is described as bringing together the global and the local to uncover how we might go about “mending a broken reputation abroad” at the same time as “writing a new national story at home.”
A contender in the last Labour leadership election and senior member of the shadow cabinet, Nandy will include conversations with global thought leaders to provide fresh insight from all over the world.
Nandy said: “For too long foreign policy has been treated as a closed shop, divorced from people’s everyday lives. With Britain starting a new chapter outside the EU it is time for a new approach that restores a sense of values, energy and direction to Britain’s role in the world, rooted in the ambitions of people across the UK. I’m delighted to be working with HarperNorth, who uniquely understand the role the north has played in building Britain’s influence in the world, and the role we will continue to play in shaping our future.”
De Peyer said: “Lisa is a very effective communicator and an innovative thinker. She has a particular knack for explaining clearly and compellingly why the problems we encounter locally – from fraud to flooding – have global solutions. Her book will offer a clear-eyed and ultimately hopeful reconceptualization of Britain’s place in the world. And who else could create a thesis linking the rules-based international order with the fortunes of Wigan Athletic?”
