Actor and scriptwriter Mark Griffin, also known for appearing as Trojan in the hit 90s ITV show "Gladiators", is publishing a London-based thriller series with Little, Brown.
His debut, When Darkness Calls, begins a new series starring criminal psychologist Holly Wakefield who, according to associate publisher Emma Beswetherick, "could be the strongest, most complex heroine of our time".
Beswetherick acquired world English rights in two books from Griffin, his debut and an as-yet-unnamed sequel, through Luigi Bonomi at LBA Books.
She commented further: "Everyone at Little, Brown is thrilled at the prospect of building her as a new series character. The market is primed for a series such as this."
Griffin worked for many years in film development for CAA and Warner Brothers in Los Angeles, before becoming a script writer himself. In his acting career, he has played a number of roles, including in TV shows such as "Dr Who". He is currently in rehearsals for a tour of "Soldier On", a play about Afghanistan veterans coping with coming home, directed by Jonathan Guy Lewis.
German rights in his debut were pre-empted by HarperCollins Germany via Nicki Kennedy at ILA which is handling all translation rights. Emily Hayward-Whitlock of The Artists Partnership is handling film and tv rights.
