Children’s book publisher Little Tiger (owned by PRH) has acquired the rights to eight more books from environmental historian, expedition leader and Clive Penguin author Huw Lewis-Jones in an "extensive" new deal. Associate editorial director Becky Davies acquired world rights directly from the author. The first three books are set to be published next year.
The first title will be the picture book Mr Norton’s New Hat, publishing in hardback in March 2025, described as a "captivating story about a man who finds a mouse making a house in his hat". The book will be illustrated by Corey Egbert. A sequel is already planned for spring 2026. This will be followed by Go Go Dodo! in July 2025, set to be illustrated by artist Fred Blunt.
Clive Penguin is set to return in September 2025, with Clive Penguin Learns to Fly, Sort of. The book is a "funny, deadpan tale of reaching for your dreams and ignoring naysayers". It will be illustrated by Ben Sanders, and will coincide with the release of the original Clive Penguin in board-book form. Four further untitled picture books are also on the cards, as well as a rhyming folk tale collection for older readers.
Davies said: "Huw is an author of rare talent, with a unique tone and turn of phrase which characterises all his stories, even in their variety! The recent picture books he has created through collaboration with outstanding artists such as Ben Sanders, Fred Blunt and Corey Egbert are some of my favourites of all time."
Little Tiger has also launched a #WheresClivePenguin social media campaign with around 50 bookshops across the UK. Throughout November, plush toys of Clive Penguin can be found at different bookshops, with a competition to win a plush.
Lewis-Jones said: "Little Tiger has put its trust in my writing, and the skills that the whole team bring to the party are going to make the stories fly. Or, in the case of our hero Clive Penguin… almost fly. He’s going to try his very best, that’s for sure! It’s been great to see our first book together be so warmly adopted by librarians and booksellers around the country. And I just love getting into schools to talk books and animals. It’s been a blast."
