Independent publisher Little Toller Books has acquired Horatio Clare’s "moving" account of the small boats crisis. Adrian Cooper, publisher at Little Toller Books, acquired rights to We Came by Sea directly from the author.
In the book, the travel writer tells the story of the volunteers who help thousands of refugees in Calais, of the lifeboat crews rescuing those at sea and "an unrecognised, uncelebrated, all but unknown Britain which is giving its all to help the vulnerable and desperate".
Gracie Cooper, publisher at Little Toller, said: "We’re delighted and proud to be working with Horatio again. We Came by Sea is an urgent, vital book, which shows Britain at its absolute best, and is a necessary corrective to so much of what we read in the press. We can’t wait to get this into the hands of readers."
Clare said: "I am delighted to be working with the team at Little Toller, a beautiful, nimble press making gorgeous books which glitter, resonate and endure. We Came by Sea aims to spark new conversations about one of the challenges of our time. Little Toller is its perfect tinderbox!"
Little Toller will publish We Came by Sea in May 2025; proof copies will be available shortly for booksellers and the press.
Little Toller Books has published two previous books by Clare: Orison for a Curlew and Something of His Art.
