Lume Books has landed a new two-book deal with bestselling author Nancy Bilyeau.
Aubrie Artiano, head of publishing at the independent, alongside her predecessor James Faktor, acquired world rights for both novels from the author.
The first book, The Orchid Hour, will be published in July 2023 and tells the story of a young widow living in 1920s New York. The second book will be published in December 2023 and is the third instalment in Bilyeau’s Genevieve Planché series.
Artiano said: “Nancy is enormously talented. Her writing is incredibly compelling and immersive, and her research is meticulous. I’m delighted Genevieve Planché will continue to capture readers—she’s a beloved character and her story exposes the many difficulties female artists faced in Georgian London.
I’m also thrilled Nancy is returning to early 20th century America, the setting of Dreamland, published with us in 2020. She has once again demonstrated her ability to deftly weave historical figures into her fiction, from notorious gangsters Lucky Luciano and Arnold Rothstein to the beloved stage and screen actress Mary Pickford to the formidable J Edgar Hoover.”
Bilyeau’s books also include the bestselling Joanna Stafford series. “I’m happy to continue my wonderful connection with Lume," she said. "Ever since they acquired The Blue, I’ve been proud to share with readers their dazzling covers and fine edits of my fiction. I’m really looking forward to the next two books and seeing where we go."
