Two new Sherlock Holmes novels by novelist Bonnie MacBird have been snapped up by HarperCollins.
David Brawn, publisher of estates at HarperCollins, bought world all languages rights in a two-book deal with Linda Langton at Langton’s International Agency.
HarperCollins published McBird’s first Sherlock Holmes novel, Art in the Blood, in 2015. Her Sherlock Holmes Adventures have been translated into 17 languages. The third book in MacBird’s series, The Devil’s Due, was published on 10th October in hardback, ebook and audio, and The Three Locks will follow in the autumn of 2020.
Brawn said: "Having worked with Bonnie MacBird on her trilogy of Sherlock Holmes novels Art in the Blood, Unquiet Spirits and this month’s new release The Devil’s Due, it was unthinkable not to continue. Bonnie’s passion for the world of the Great Detective, combined with her lively imagination and extensive research into the period, brings these iconic characters to life like no one else, and I really want to see where she takes them next."
MacBird added: "I’m honoured and delighted to be with Harper Collins, and to continue to share my long-time passion for Sherlock Holmes. It’s a thrill and a challenge to emulate my favourite author, and to carry forward the stories in novel-length adventures. I’m delighted that they have found their readership; there is nothing more gratifying than pleasing a Holmesian, unless it’s to bring more readers into the Holmes world altogether! Rational thinking and the deep friendship of Holmes and Watson are balms for troubled times, and the humour so characteristic of Doyle makes for a playful distraction and a delightful world to inhabit."
