Macmillan Children’s Books has landed a three-book deal from Aidan Thomas beginning with Cemetery Boys and followed by Lost in the Never Woods and The Sunbearer Trials.
Publisher Sam Smith and fiction editor Charlie Castelletti acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Kristin Dulaney at Macmillan in the US. Both Cemetery Boys and Lost in the Never Woods will be published on 4th August with The Sunbearer Trials following on 15th September in a "global publishing event".
Cemetery Boys follows Yadriel who summons the angry spirit of his school’s bad boy. An exclusive early edition of Cemetery Boys will be launched at the Young Adult Literature Convention 202.
The second novel, Lost in the Never Woods, is an atmospheric sophomore YA novel where children start to go missing in the woods. The synopsis reads: "Wendy must face her fears and a past she can’t remember in order to rescue them."
The Sunbearer Trials is an "electric" Mexican-inspired fantasy where teen demigods compete in a series of challenges. The publisher wrote: "As each new decade begins, the Sun’s powers must be replenished so that Sol can keep travelling along the sky and keep chaotic Obsidian gods at bay. Sol selects ten of the most worthy semidioses to compete in the Sunbearer Trials. The winner carries light and life to all the temples of Reino del Sol, but the loser has the greatest honour of all – they will be sacrificed to Sol, their body melted down to refuel the Sun Stones, protecting the world for another 10 years."
Castelletti said: "Aiden is an amazing talent who writes with such vibrancy, poignancy and authenticity. We are thrilled to be launching Aiden and his novels to readers here in the UK."
Thomas added: “I am beyond thrilled to be teaming up with Macmillan Children’s Books to bring Cemetery Boys, Lost in the Never Woods and The Sunbearer Trials to a UK audience. UK readers have already been so supportive and Macmillan Children’s Books is the perfect partner. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have in store.”
