Macmillan Children’s Books has acquired Time Keys, a middle-grade, time travel mystery series from M G Leonard. Her books have been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than 420,000 copies through TCM. Sarah Hughes, associate publisher at Macmillan Children’s Books, bought world rights from Kirsty McLachlan at Morgan Green Creatives in a six-figure, four-book deal.
The series will launch with Hunt for the Golden Scarab in B-format paperback original on 30th January 2025, with further titles following every six months. Time Keys is perfect for all readers of 8-12 who love action adventure, mysteries, history and music.
The first four titles in the series take readers from ancient Egypt to Viking Norway, on to ancient Rome and, finally, to medieval England. Sarah Hughes said: “Time Keys is a huge launch for us. This is M G Leonard’s best book yet: clever, thrilling and ambitious—it’s utterly brilliant. I can’t wait to share it with readers.”
Alison Ruane, managing director of Macmillan Children’s Books said: "M G Leonard is an extraordinary storyteller admired by those in the industry and adored by her readers. It is a privilege to publish her blockbuster new adventure series on Macmillan Children’s Books bestselling, award-winning middle-grade list."
M G Leonard said: “Ever since I learned about string theory, music and time travel have been connected in my imagination. Macmillan Children’s Books understood my vision for Time Keys from the outset and are incredibly supportive collaborators. We cannot wait for readers to join the band and come with us on adventures through history.”
