Abacus has signed a new “groundbreaking” book from Malcom Gladwell, Revenge of the Tipping Point, in which the author revisits ideas introduced in The Tipping Point.
Managing director Richard Beswick acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Tina Bennett at Bennett Literary for publication on 1st October 2024.
Revenge of the Tipping Point is Gladwell’s first book since The Bomber Mafia was published in 2021 and is pitched as his “most personal and urgent book yet”. Bringing a “fresh perspective” to the ideas of The Tipping Point, Gladwell explores the phenomenon of social epidemics in light of the events of the past 25 years.
The synopsis reads: “Why in the late 1980s and early ’90s did Los Angeles become the bank robbery capital of the world? What is the Magic Third and what does it have to do with racial equity? What do big cats and clusters of teen suicide have in common? These are just some of the questions Malcolm Gladwell addresses in this provocative new work, which revisits the phenomenon of social epidemics and examines the ways in which we have learned to tinker with and shape the spread of ideas, viruses, and trends – sometimes with great success, sometimes with disastrous consequences.”
