Mantle has signed the fourth and final volume in Kate Mosse’s Joubert Family Chronicles series, The Map of Bones.
Publisher Maria Rejt acquired world English-language rights from Mark Lucas at The Soho Agency. It will publish as a lead title for Mantle in hardback, e-book and audio on 10th October 2024.
The Map of Bones is the described as “a fast-moving, heartbreaking multi-generational epic of adventure and love, family and dispossession, injustice and hope,” which follows on from The Ghost Ship, shortlisted for Fiction Book of the Year at The British Book Awards.
Mosse said: “I first began to sketch the outline for a series of novels telling the story of several generations of refugee women from one Huguenot family back in 2012, after a visit to Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands for the book festival. Fourteen years on – and many hundreds of thousands of words later – it is bittersweet to be bringing the series to an end with The Map of Bones.
“A novel bringing together 300 years of history, honouring the strength and courage of women, pioneers and family, the possibility of building new lives in a hostile land, it is above all a story celebrating the power of words and the tales that are passed down from generation to generation. I won’t deny it’s been hard to say goodbye to characters who have kept me company for so long, but I hope readers will have as much pleasure reading this final instalment of The Joubert Family Chronicles as I had writing it.”
