Trapeze has acquired two novels from Marnie Riches, the first of which, Tightrope, will begin a new series of "ambitious" thrillers.
Sam Eades, editorial director at Trapeze, did the deal for world rights including audio with Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein.
Riches was previously published by Avon, selling over a quarter of a million copies worldwide and won a Dead Good Reader Award in 2015.
Tightrope, the first in the new deal with Trapeze, will be published in spring 2019. The book will introduce readers to private investigator Bev Saunders, a divorcee with a troubled history who takes on cases to avenge wronged women.
Eades said: "Marnie Riches is a writer like no other; a fiendish plotter with a flair for vivid characters you instantly warm to. Bev really reminded me of Cormoran Strike, and I can’t wait for readers to meet her. Marnie is also one of the hardest working authors in the industry, and I have been a huge admirer of hers for years. We can’t wait to take her career to even greater heights."
Riches said: "I shall always be thankful for the terrific grounding I've had at Avon/HarperCollins, where I've been so very productive. Now, however, I'm delighted to be starting my next literary adventure under the wing of the boundlessly energetic, hugely well-regarded and dynamic Sam Eades at Orion's Trapeze imprint. I have no doubt that readers who fell in love with George McKenzie and Sheila O'Brien will also be rooting for tough-cookie, complex heroine, Bev Saunders."
