Macmillan Children’s Books has announced the “hotly awaited” final title in Tomi Adeyemi’s series Children of Blood and Bone.
Children of Anguish and Anarchy will publish in hardback on 25th June 2024. It is part of a previous deal conducted by Belinda Ioni Rasmussen, managing director of Macmillan Children’s Books, for UK and Commonwealth print, digital and audiobook rights from Jon Yaged, president and publisher of sister company Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group in the US, who bought world English language rights.
The first book in the trilogy, Children of Blood and Bone was awarded the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Older Fiction. The series is inspired by Adeyemi’s studies of West African mythology, including Orïsha – deities belonging to the Yoruban people of southwest Nigeria.
Rasmussen said: “When we launched Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone in 2018 it set the publishing world alight, and the impact this exceptional series has had on the fantasy genre is incomparable. We are delighted to be publishing Children of Anguish and Anarchy, which raises Tomi’s trademark immersive world-building, brilliantly complex characters and high-stakes magical battles to another level: we can’t wait for readers to discover the explosive finale to this game-changing series.”
Adeyemi added: “I can’t put into words how much it means to be closing out Zélie’s epic journey. My readers have been so patient and so passionate, and I’m ecstatic to finally share this news. My biggest hope is that they have one last breathless adventure, and get lost in the new worlds and exciting characters beyond Orïsha’s borders. Thank you for being with me and with Zélie throughout all these years!"
