MCB signs two more from fantasy author Wilson

Macmillan Children’s Books has announced a new deal for two magical fantasy novels by Amy Wilson.

Lucy Pearse, senior commissioning editor at MCB, bought world rights from Amber Caraveo at the Skylark Literary Agency.

The first of the new novels will be a companion to Wilson's 2017 debut novel, A Girl Called Owl, which was nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal and has sold in seven languages. Owl and the Lost Boy follows Owl – the half-fae daughter of Jack Frost – who must save her friends from an astonishing battle of the seasons as she tries to put an end to a perpetual summer. It will be published on 15th October 2020. 

Pearse said: "I am very proud to have worked with Amy since her first manuscript came to MCB. We knew from the start that Amy’s storytelling was special. She has a great talent for drawing you into completely believable worlds that also get right to the heart of important human realities. She is a real star of UK middle grade, beloved by readers and fellow writers and I am delighted that we will not only be publishing Owl and the Lost Boy, but also another truly exciting and ambitious standalone novel with her too.”

Wilson added: “I’m so thrilled to be continuing this magical journey with Lucy and MCB. It’s been a pleasure to return to Owl’s world, and I hope her new adventure will be something for readers to look forward to and enjoy.”

Wilson is a former journalist and full-time writer. A graduate of the Bath Spa MA in creative writing, she lives in Bristol with her family. She has previously published four children's books with MCB – A Girl Called Owl, A Far Away Magic, Snowglobe and Shadows of Winterspell – and was a contributor to Return to Wonderland, a collection of short stories inspired by Alice in Wonderland, also published by Macmillan.
