Ava Eldred’s debut YA thriller The Boyband Murder Mystery has been optioned by MGM's Orion TV and digital entertainment start-up Brat in a "heated" four-way auction. The book will be published by Penguin Children's in May 2021.
MGM and Brat partner to develop premium original scripted and unscripted content for YA audiences.
The Boyband Murder Mystery celebrates teenage fans while simultaneously exploring the morality of fandom. It combines "pacey and exciting mystery with an emotional exploration of celebrity culture".
Barry Poznick, president of MGM’s unscripted and alternative television and Orion Television, said: “We were instantly drawn to Ava’s fast-paced storytelling, combining pop-culture and true crime. This is the perfect partnership of great IP coupled with the Brat/Orion team to turn this into a buzzy series for the YA market, and beyond!”
Eldred commented: "I'm so excited that The Boyband Murder Mystery has been optioned by MGM’s Orion TV and Brat, and can't wait to work with them on expanding the world of the book as we develop it for TV. Their passion for this project makes it very clear we've found the perfect home for it."
