Mercier Press has signed The Wonderful Life of Connie Maguire by journalist Domhnall O’Donoghue.
Dee Collins, head of books, acquired world rights were acquired directly from the author for publication in summer 2025 as a lead fiction title.
The Wonderful Life of Connie Maguire tells the story of a single mother living in northeast Ireland "whose dependence on prescription pills leads to deadly consequences".
Collins commented: “Connie Maguire is fiery, flawed, and unforgettable — for all the wrong reasons. Yet you’ll fall for her, mistakes and all. O’Donoghue strips away her mask, revealing the complex human beneath. It’s a story we desperately need in today’s quick-to-judge world.”
O’Donoghue added: “I’m delighted to collaborate with Mercier Press once again. I wrote The Wonderful Life of Connie Maguire during a challenging period, and while the book explores the complexities of human nature, along with the fragility of life, it’s ultimately a story of hope and redemption. I’m both excited and nervous about sharing it with the world.”
