Profile Books has acquired a new book by Nike’s first director of international basketball, George Raveling, and philosopher Ryan Holiday, featuring a foreword by Michael Jordan.
Editorial director Louisa Dunnigan acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to What You’re Made For: Powerful Lessons from a Life in Sports from Penguin Random House US, which bought the rights from agent Stephen Hanselman of LevelFiveMedia. The book will be published on 4th March 2025 in hardback, e-book and audio.
"Coach George Raveling is a living icon in the fields of sport and leadership," the synopsis says. "His story begins in the 1930s, under the shadow of segregation, and stretches over eight decades of excellence and achievement against the odds. In this remarkable book, written with long-time friend and mentee Ryan Holiday, Raveling explores the contours of his extraordinary life and offers valuable lessons in leadership."
Dunnigan said: "George Raveling is a legend not only in the field of basketball but as a leader and mentor whose wisdom has shaped the lives of thousands. Ryan Holiday is one of those many people, and we are very proud to be publishing this extraordinary collaboration between bestselling author and icon: George has so much to teach about leadership, excellence and living a good life, and we can’t wait to share his lessons with the world."
Holiday, the author of The Obstacle Is the Way, The Daily Stoic and Stillness is the Key, will be hosting an event on 12th November in London.
