Penguin Michael Joseph has secured England and Liverpool footballer Jordan Henderson’s autobiography.
Head of non-fiction Dan Bunyard acquired world rights from Rory Scarfe at the Blair Partnership on behalf of Tyler Alexander-Arnold at Status Creative management. Jordan Henderson: The Autobiography will be published on 27th October 2022.
Henderson began playing for Liverpool in 2011, before taking over as captain from Steven Gerrard in 2015. Since then he has led the team to victory in the Champion’s League and secured the club’s first premiership title in 30 years. Henderson has also been a long-standing player with the England team, playing under Fabio Capello, Roy Hodgson and Gareth Southgate. He is the only footballer to be named England Player of the Year twice, for the under 21s and then on the senior squad.
Bunyard commented: "It’s a rare privilege to have a player of Jordan’s standing and experience share their experiences of the game as openly as he does here, in his first autobiography. Through injury and setbacks, both personal and professional, what emerges is the story of someone who frequently battled against the odds as well as his critics to achieve success for his club and supporters, someone for whom a passion for the game and for his team never wavered. Whether his focus is on himself, on crucial moments during games or behind the scenes, or in exploring the impacts of the pandemic and politics on football over the last few years, there is a consistent honesty and insight which makes it a fascinating and inspiring book to read."
Henderson added: "I’m excited to be working with Penguin Michael Joseph, to tell my story so far. I’ve always said that the team and the fans come first, so to share my journey is also to be sharing theirs, but hopefully also to be giving readers an insight that they’ve not had before."
