Michael O’Mara Books has snapped up The Daily Mash – Class Wars: A Field Guide to Being British, written in partnership with the satirical website The Daily Mash.
Senior commissioning editor Nicki Crossley acquired world all language rights direct from Digitalbox – which owns The Daily Mash – and the book will be published in hardback on 10th October 2024.
“Since 2008, the site’s team of talented writers – most recently led by author and editor-in-chief Tom Whiteley – has provided a daily dose of witty commentary on the latest news and societal trends,” the synopsis says. “This uproarious book promises no less, featuring brand new articles and quizzes alongside some classic Daily Mash material that pokes fun at the quirks and absurdities of British identity.”
The book’s publication will be supported by a strategic digital marketing campaign designed to reach Daily Mash readers and fans of satirical comedy.
Whiteley said: “Governments come and go, but what really unites Britain is our solid sense of who’s who in the class hierarchy [...] You’ll laugh, you’ll cry laughing and you’ll get new ammunition for an argument with your up-himself brother-in-law.”
Crossley added: “The Daily Mash is a comedy institution and we’re delighted to be partnering with them on their razor-sharp guide to the British class system. They have a unique talent for making us laugh at ourselves, and this book promises to be a smart and satirical take on what it means to be British.”
