Ben Miller has signed a new three-book deal with Simon & Schuster Children's, and is poised to become “a major force in children’s publishing”, the firm says.
Jane Griffiths, editorial director of fiction, acquired world English Language rights to the books from Luigi Bonomi at LBA Literary Agents. The untitled books will be published each September in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
S&S also revealed his next title, to be published in hardback on 14th November, is The Boy Who Made the World Disappear.
It follows hard on the heels of his debut children’s hit, The Night I Met Father Christmas (S&S Children’s), illustrated by Daniela Jaglenka Terrazzini. Released in hardback in November 2018, it sold 24,098 copies through Nielsen BookScan.
Miller said: “I’m beyond excited to be planning a future with the peerless Simon and Schuster Children’s. Not only will I have the support of the best creative, production, and marketing teams in the business, I’ll be rubbing shoulders with all my favourite authors. And with any luck, getting sneak previews of their books... Here’s to many more fantastical romps, along the lines of last year’s bestselling The Night I Met Father Christmas and this year’s hopefully-bestselling The Boy Who Made The World Disappear.”
Rachel Denwood, m.d. of Simon & Schuster’s UK childrens division, said: “We are delighted to be building this long-term relationship with Ben Miller and Simon & Schuster, and we look forward to publishing more wonderful books in the years ahead. Ben is a born children’s storyteller with a distinctive, utterly charming voice and an ability to bring compelling high-concept twists to his tales. Ben Miller is an original, exciting talent and someone I see growing into a major force in children’s publishing in the years ahead.”
Jane Griffiths, editorial director for fiction at Simon & Schuster Children’s, said: “The Night I Met Father Christmas proved to be a real festive hit last year and I know that Ben’s new novel, The Boy Who Made The World Disappear will delight children everywhere too! Ben’s imagination knows no bounds, so I’m absolutely thrilled to have signed up three more books with him and can’t wait to see where he takes readers next!”
