Miller's Circe snared for HBO drama series

Circe (Bloomsbury) by Madeline Miller is to be made into an HBO drama series.

It will be written and executive produced by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the co-writers and co-producers of the "Jurassic World" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" films and will be an HBO Max production. The series will be a direct-to-consumer service for HBO’s parent company, WarnerMedia, an American media and entertainment company. It is set to debut in spring 2020. 

First published in 2018, Circe went to number 3 on the Sunday Times on hardback publication and hitting the Sunday Times top 10 again on paperback publication in April 2019.  It was also shortlisted for Waterstones’ Book of the Year 2018 and has been translated in 22 languages. It has sold 134,000 copies across all editions, according to Nielsen BookScan.

Miller said: “I am so excited to have Circe’s story adapted by this passionate and talented team. It is thrilling that there is such growing interest in retelling Greek myths, as well as giving voice to those who have been pushed to the margins. I love seeing the focus on a woman's life at the centre of its own epic adventure.”

The author, a former Latin and Greek teacher, previously won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2012 (now known as the Women's Prize for Fiction) for her debut novel, The Song of Achilles (Bloomsbury).
