Trinity Mirror's publishing imprint Mirror Books has acquired three titles in a new crime series by author and playwright Lynn Brittney to launch its fiction list.
Publishing director Paula Scott acquired world English rights from Marilia Savvides at PFD.
The Mayfair 100 series is set in London during the First World War. It follows chief inspector Peter Beech and his clandestine team of crime fighters - a small motley crew of well-educated women and professional policemen - who team up to solve the capital’s crimes, during a time when women were not yet allowed to be police officers or detectives.
Scott said: "In the Mayfair 100 Series, Lynn has created a colourful and charming cast of characters living through an important period in our history. Readers will love her wonderfully evocative stories. It's a fantastic addition to the Mirror Books imprint".
Brittney said she was “thrilled and honoured” to be spearheading the company’s new fiction list. She said: “Mirror Books already has a wonderful non-fiction list of books that covers British crime and nostalgia. Given that my book is all about a secret team of detectives in London in WW1 set up to deal with growing female crime, as women take over the jobs vacated by men during wartime, I feel that it has found the perfect home with Mirror. Their books already have a strong following amongst readers who like crime and British life in the last century.”
The first book in the series, Mayfair 100: A Murder in Belgravia, will be published in January 2018, kicking off the imprint’s fiction list.
