Mirror Books will publish Happy Dog Days at the Pug Café by Anushka Fernando and Bertie the Pug, the first book from the Pug Café.
Senior commissioning editor Ajda Vucicevic acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Eve White at the Eve White Literary Agency. The title will be published on 29th October 2020 and a percentage of Fernando’s royalties will be donated to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
Happy Dog Days at the Pug Café tells the true story of Bertie the pug, who was diagnosed with hemivertebrae and was unable to walk. His owner decided to open a dog-friendly café where he could meet other dogs. The Pug Café in Guildford quickly became popular, but when the café faced closure, Bertie and his friends came to the rescue.
The Pug Café is now an events company which turns venues across the country into dog cafés for the day.
Fernando commented: "Bertie is a very special little dog who has changed the course of my entire life. Bringing me happiness, friendship and endless puggy adventures! We are both incredibly excited to be given this opportunity to put paw to paper and tell the story of how we started the Pug Café—the world’s first café for dogs."
Vucicevic said: "I’m thrilled to introduce the adventures of Bertie the Pug to a wider audience he is as cheeky as he is charming, and will do anything for a bit of cheese. It’s going to be a puggy marvellous publication and I cannot wait for it to launch."
