Mitchell Beazley, an imprint of Octopus Publishing Group, has acquired Garden Style: A Book of Ideas, described as a new sourcebook of garden design, by award‐winning photographer Marianne Majerus and landscape architect Heidi Howcroft.
Publisher Alison Starling bought world rights in all languages direct from the authors, with the book scheduled for publication in the UK in May 2023.
North American rights have already been acquired, too, according to the publisher, who says the book “will allow the reader to pick and choose from a wealth of exciting ideas to create their own outdoor paradise.”
The synopsis continues: “In the ever‐changing world of garden design anything goes, whether inspired by the past or looking to the future. Choosing what style suits an outdoor space can be a daunting prospect and everyone, even the professionals, needs help to get the best from an open area.
“Richly illustrated with 640 inspirational photographs and with incisive, illuminating text, this book shows what is possible for every type of garden, from challenging small spaces to expansive plots. Design tools are explained, planting styles explored, and inspiration is drawn from a wide variety of locations and climates to appeal to garden owners and designers everywhere.”
Rights in the authors’ first collaboration for Mitchell Beazley, Garden Design: A Book of Ideas (2015), were sold in North America, France and Germany.
Starling commented: “Creating a stylish outdoor space – however small – has become more important than ever and this visually gorgeous sourcebook has inspiration and advice for every gardener. Following the sustained success of Garden Design: A Book of Ideas, it has been a joy to work once again with Marianne’s peerless image library and Heidi’s expert advice on this future garden design classic.”
In addition to design work, Heidi Howcroft has curated exhibitions, writes as a columnist and is the author of more than 30 books covering a wide range of garden topics. Luxembourg‐born Marianne Majerus has won, among other awards, International Garden Photographer of the Year, and has been named Photographer of the Year by the Garden Media Guild on several occasions. In 2018 she was named European Garden Photographer of the Year. She is a founding member of the Professional Garden Photographers’ Association.
