Monoray has landed The Formula: How Rogues, Geniuses, and Speed Freaks Reengineered F1 into the World’s Fastest-Growing Sport, a "high-octane" history of Formula One, from journalists Joshua Robinson and Jonathan Clegg.
Publisher Jake Lingwood acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Kate Falkoff, rights manager at HarperCollins US. The Formula will be published on 14th March 2024, coinciding with the 2024 Formula One racing season.
The Formula is the "first, definitive" account of how Formula One "achieved global stardom". The publisher continued: "It is the tale of a commercial empire; one built in the 20th century, rendered almost obsolete in the early 21st, that has re-emerged world dominant today."
Robinson is the European sports correspondent for the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) where Clegg is also the sports editor. Robinson and Clegg commented: "F1 has always been a part of our lives, but even we were surprised by where the reporting took us and how much about the sport’s reinvention hadn’t yet been told. Across interviews on four continents – from Suzuka, Japan to Bernie Ecclestone’s living room in Switzerland – we came away with a new understanding of what it takes for a sport to achieve global popularity in the 21st century."
Lingwood added: "Joshua and Jonathan’s WSJ background and impressive track record in sports business writing means they are the perfect authors to pick apart the behemoth that is F1. Josh gave me a list of who they’ve interviewed on this book and it’s nuts – they spoken to virtually everybody. The Formula is a real scoop."
