Monoray has signed Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children, the “funniest book of the year”, from comedian Daniel Foxx.
Publisher Jake Lingwood acquired world rights from Lily Morris from Off the Kerb Productions Ltd on behalf of Foxx. The collection of stories, based on Foxx’s TikTok videos of the same name, will be published in September 2024 with black and white illustrations throughout.
Bedtime Stories for Privileged Children will feature some of the stories Foxx posts on his TikTok channel where he reads bedtime tales “about the decadent extravagance of the rich and privileged straight to camera”. Half of the stories in the collection will be original.
The publisher wrote: “Read about the everyday adventures of Rupert, Shallotte and Genevievette as they ski, holiday and adrift around Selfridges – while always keeping a healthy distance from the dreaded hoi polloi.”
“Daniel’s bedtime stories are wickedly funny and perfectly satire the conspicuous consumerism of the world in which we live,” said Lingwood. “You laugh at the children and their horrible families one moment – and then cringe in self-recognition the next. I think this is by far the funniest book of the year and definitely the most zeitgeisty – and we’re thrilled to publish it on Monoray.”
Foxx added: “I can’t take much credit for this, because these stories came to me almost fully formed when I sat in my local bougie café and listened to the yummy mummies and delicious daddies discussing their luxury offspring. I was compelled to note down some of the most ridiculous children’s names I’ve ever heard, along with some truly wild anecdotes, and a few years later, here we are.”
