Michael Joseph is looking to clean up in 2019 with a book from Instagram star Mrs Hinch, secured in an 11-way auction.
Entitled Hinch Yourself Happy: All The Best Cleaning Tips To Shine Your Sink and Soothe Your Soul , the book from Sophie Hinchliffe (known to her 1.4m followers as simply "Mrs Hinch") promises to offer readers "clever cleaning tips" for "not only a cleaner house, but a calmer you".
World rights were acquired by Fenella Bates, publisher at Michael Joseph, from Gleam’s head of publishing, Abigail Bergstrom, in what has been described as a "heated" 11-way auction. The plan is to publish in hardback on 4th April 2019.
Noting how quickly Hinchliffe's star has risen on Instagram, having grown her following on the platform from 1,000 to 1.4 million in just six months, Bates said Michael Joseph was positioning the title as one of its biggest books for 2019.
She said: "Mrs Hinch is a one-woman cleaning phenomenon who has helped millions of people enjoy cleaning through “hinching”. I first saw her on This Morning when I was still on maternity leave and the first thing I did on my return to my desk a few weeks ago was to make contact.
"In the last month and a half, Mrs Hinch has gained a million followers on Instagram. But this book will be about much more than cleaning. Sophie has openly spoken about suffering from anxiety in the past and has explained how vital cleaning has been for her recovery. It is our hope that Hinch Yourself Happy will bring Mrs Hinch's positive approach and shared love of cleaning to homes across the UK.
"We are over the moon to be working with Mrs Hinch and with Gleam, and we're positioning this as one of our biggest books for 2019."
Hinchliffe said: "To be publishing my own book is something I never imagined, even in my wildest dreams. I am so happy to be working with a publishing house like Penguin to bring the world of 'hinching' to life on the page. I am still shocked and overwhelmed by this incredible journey I’m on, but I am also excited to offer my Hinchers not only a small insight into my life, but also a handbook that we can all refer to and enjoy."
